When I started writing this blog 2 years ago I talked about the life I WANTED to lead. I wasn’t following my own advice. I knew what I wanted my life to be. I knew what I had to do to live that life. I just wasn’t ready to make those changes for myself.
You know why change is so damn hard? Because it’s easier to stay the same. It’s easier to sit on the couch than to get up and do a workout. It’s easier to throw a frozen pizza in the oven than to plan your meals and cook them from scratch.
I wanted to live this awesome life but I kept getting sucked back by comfort. I wasn’t ready to get passed that comfort and really push myself.
My brain kept getting writer’s block and I couldn’t figure out why. After taking some major time away from the blog I realized I always felt like I knew what to do but couldn’t follow through.
I had to work on myself before I could give any advice. Now that I am mentally ready to change my lifestyle. I have an abundance of advice and experiences to share with you. No more writer’s block for this girl!
The first thing I did was write down my big picture life. The life I’d always dreamed of having. I wrote out the goals that would help me achieve that life (check it out here.)
It’s one thing to make goals and write a plan it is something completely different to work on those goals everyday. To have the discipline to follow through. You can control the changes you make. It took me a long time to make that mental switch. I am great at lists and plans but I struggle following through.
Only now that I’ve worked through my issues can I begin to make those changes.
That’s the biggest key to making those lifestyle changes. You have to have the ability to recognize your own weaknesses and how to overcome then. You can’t have your blinders up to those underlying causes. You have to work through them. Enter that new life you want with a clear head and the discipline to make extraordinary changes.
Don’t call yourself names, or put yourself down, or think there’s no way you can achieve the life you dream about. Just keep your eyes on those goals everyday. Take it one small step at a time and you will wake up one day and realize you have achieved what you wanted all along. Don’t miss the journey look up every once in a while and congratulate yourself for how hard you’ve been working.
It’s definitely about the end results, but you have to focus on the work. You’ll appreciate what you’ve accomplished so much more if you can look back and see the improvements, know how hard you worked. That hard work will lead to discipline in so many other areas of your life. Your professional life, personal life, and with your family.
You can steer your life in the direction you want. I know that now and I can see that its going to be hard grueling work before I see that light at the end of the tunnel.
That hard work and discipline will absolutely pay off. I just have to follow my own plan and advice. That’s why this blog is so amazing I can use it the way I envisioned using it. To share my story as I actually make these changes in my own life. There’s gotta be so many people in my same position that might need to see that someone like them can make these lifestyle changes.
I never expected it to be easy. Having a more realistic plan and accepting the hard work it’s going to take to see that dream life gives me higher expectations of myself. I KNOW I can make these changes. I expect the hard work which means I can expect the benefits of that hard work.
Everyday you make those changes means you are shaping the rest of your life. One day, one step, one bite at a time.
What is the hardest part of lifestyle changes for you?
How do you keep yourself disciplined to follow through?
